Born in Taiwan, Dr. Lin is an unusual hybrid. He has risen above his humble beginnings to experience both the joys of private practice, and a life of full-time academics. He left a thriving private practice in New York for a full-time academic career at Harvard. He has never regretted that decision but rather has relished in his role as a practitioner and educator. He loves his work and the continual opportunities to impact his patients, students, the profession, and the wider community. His journey has been filled with numerous twists, and he would not have it any other way.

Jarshen Lin is currently the Director of Extramural Education, the Co-Director of the Diagnosis and Prevention course, and the Director of Pre-doctoral Endodontics at the Harvard School of Dental Medicine at Harvard University. Dr. Lin received his BDS from Chungshan Medial University in Taiwan, DDS degree from Northwestern University in Chicago, and his certificate in Endodontics from the University of Michigan. After serving 5 years at the test construction committee of National Board, he served as the endodontic expert on the Clinical Case Committee of National Dental Examiners Part II. He has played an active role at the Distant Learning Committee, the Annual Session Planning Committee, the Continuing Education Committee, and the Evidence-Based Endodontics Committee of the American Association of Endodontists. He is the immediate past president of the Greater Boston Chinese Dental Association and the past chairman of the Endodontic section of the American Dental Education Association.

Beyond his teaching and mentorship activities, Dr. Lin serves as endodontics editor for various dental textbooks and is a member of the editorial boards of several journals. His own publications can be found in dental journals such as the Journal of the American Dental Association, General Dentistry, and Journal of Endodontics.

In both academic and community settings, Dr. Lin is respected for his commitment to dental education and community outreach. He participates as a leader in numerous dental societies and associations, including the American Association of Endodontists, the American Dental Association, the National Board of Dental Examiners, the Master Tract of the Academy of General Dentistry, and the American Dental Education Association.

Dr. Lin is currently the Faculty Advisor for Harvard‚ Endodontic Study Club, Project Bridge (a nationally recognized volunteer program which provides dental care for homeless youth), Smile for Miles (a non-profit organization which provides dental care for disabled children), An Evening with Champions (an annual Jimmy Fund event sponsored Elliot House of Harvard College) and One World, One Dream (Harvard Medical Student Volunteer at Olympic Games). He has worked with Boston and Brookline Police for the Children Identification Program. In the past five years, he has been the co-chair of Ice Chips: Show of Champions, an annual event with more than six thousand participants to benefit Children‚ Hospital, Project Bridge, and Girl Scouts USA. Dr. Lin also serves on the Board of Governors of the Skating Club. In 2010, Dr. Lin received Dean‚ Community Service Award from Harvard Medical School for his contributions to the community.  In 2013 he received The Spirit of the Ice Chips Award, and in 2015, he received the Project Success Award from Harvard Medical School.

Dr. Lin has received numerous honors during his academic career, including awards from Harvard, Massachusetts, the American Dental Education Association, the American Dental Association, and from the American Association of Endodontists. In his past thirteen years at Harvard, Dr. Lin has received fifteen teaching awards, including Distinguished Faculty Award, Full-Time Faculty Award, the Best Lecture Award (as voted for by students), Distinguished Junior Faculty of HSDM, Faculty Recognition Award by Massachusetts Dental Society, and the first faculty Recognition Award by the American Student Dental Association. He also received the Dean‚ Award for Clinical Research from Harvard School of Dental Medicine and the 2005 Highest Award of American Dental Association Community Preventive Dentistry Award. He is the recipient of the Edward Osetek Educator Award of 2007 by the American Association of Endodontists. This award is the highest honor given to young educators in the field of endodontics. In 2016, he received the Partner Keystone award from the Girl Scouts USA and was selected as “Top Dentist” by Boston Magazine in 2017. His publications include “Endodontics Review” by Quintessence Publishing (the #1 best seller among all endodontic books by Amazon) as well as the textbook “ENDODONCIA. Ciencia y tecnologia.”
